2024 Archive Review: Notes Migration & Lessons
archive
reflection
A retrospective on migrating old note-taking systems and what remained valuable.
Migration Story
In late 2024, I migrated notes from an old note app into a new Quarto-backed archive. The process was a mix of clean-up, categorization, and preservation.
- Exported notes as markdown where possible
- Tagged by topic and date
- Archived what felt outdated, kept what still adds value
What Stayed Valuable
Not everything needed to move. The most useful items were:
- Short lessons learned from projects
- Snippets of ideas that still resonate
- Timeless references and frameworks
The Role of Archives
An archive is not just a dump; it’s a living memory. I revisit it occasionally to:
- Refresh long-term perspective
- Reuse past thinking in new contexts
- Celebrate progress without getting stuck in nostalgia
This migration was an important step in keeping history accessible and making space for new work.
